With his team by his side and the tools he’s been given, James realizes he has everything he needs to live his life with confidence in spite of his allergies.

In the beginning, James feels a little scared. He discovered that he is highly allergic to several things. These allergies sometimes make it hard for James to breathe. He wonders if he will ever be able to live a normal life.

Join James on an exciting adventure as he battles allergy-minions and finds the courage he needs to face his fears.

The story in this book was inspired by the author's youngest son. His journey with allergies and asthma, combined with his imagination and his love of video games, produced the story of James and the Big Battle.

Hi, my name is Geoffrey. I am 11 years old. When I was 9 I had a bad reaction to a trail mix bar that had almonds in it. Like James, I had to get allergy testing. It said that I was allergic to tree nuts, peanuts, and carrots. I also have to carry an inhaler like James does because of my asthma. Well actually, I carry an Epipen too.

I thought the story was kind of odd. I think it was meant for younger kids. It sounded corny to me. Such as the kangaroo riding and the fact he was inside a video game dream. I don't like the rhyming part. It gets annoying to me.

On the other hand, this book could help kids know what to do if they have allergies. I do think using superhero type video game people could make kids less scared. I felt kind of scared when I found out about my allergies.

I would recommend this book to other kids with allergies. I think it would be good for ages 3-7.

The illustration was actually pretty good. Sometimes I would see over lapping lines but I think it was pretty cute.

I would consider reading another book from this author. Thank you Amazon and to the author for having a free book about kids like me.

This part of the review is from Geoffrey's Mom. I thought the book was really entertaining and funny. Geoffrey tends to be a serious kid so sometimes cheesy things are lost on his rational mind. His 7 year old sister really enjoyed this book as well. I liked the rhyming and simple illustrations.

I loved the way they author made it easy for children to relate to (video games) and made the medications seem like power superhero tools meant to save him. This is actually very true just put in a way children can comprehend and digest.

My son was a bit of a harsh critic but he did sit and read the entire book and did seem to enjoy it. I think maybe he is just embarrassed to admit it because he has a high reading level and this book is very basic.

Overall, I highly recommend to children with allergies and the children in their lives.

James and the Big Battle A Children Book about Allergies edition by Jen Burns Kati Burns Children eBooks Reviews

I like the illustrations. It is a very clever book. It is good for kids to not feel alone when dealing with allergies and to take them seriously, because they can be life threatening. Kids don't have to feel isolated but rather empowered.
In this appealing visual tale by the children’s book author Jen Burns, young James has been diagnosed with severe allergies. At first, he retreats into himself, scared and confused.

His father assures him that he’s not alone and that he, his mom and his doctor are on his team and the team is watching his back. Not quite convinced, James nods off while he’s playing a video game. He wakes in a desert with Super Heroes fighting on his team through drama and trials of allergens.

To be a child with allergies can be frightening and stigmatizing. What I really liked about this book is that it addresses these issues in a way that shows the young child that he or she isn’t alone and can live a normal life with the right “tools”. This is a delightfully illustrated and clever story.

Highly recommended.
I loved this book. The story was cute and easy to follow with a great message for kids with food allergies! James is really bummed and scared about his newly discovered allergies. However, he learns that he has tools and a team to help keep him safe. He then realizes he can manage his allergies and still safely do the things he loves. I also really liked the fact that the author included her and her son's personal story with allergies at the end along with some resources and fun extras.
My grandson, 5, has asthma and can relate to the story. It helps him to know that other children have the same and other health problems, and that they can be handled. He opened up and talked about his pollen allergies and asthma, and the meds he takes, so it was a good way to get a conversation going. He asked questions, I answered, he felt better after we talked, and that's always a good thing.
My kids LOVED this story! I do too! This is an awesome read to share with your family. It gives kids some insight on how a child with allergy problems feels and what they endure throughout their lives. My kids thought that James was very brave for facing his fears, the allergies, in his game dream and defeating them. He was quite determined to make it to the last level, Castle of Bliss, and celebrate his triumph with his new found team. We will be reading this again and sharing it with family and friends.
Our family so appreciates this story as one of our sons struggles with allergies and asthma. He repeatedly brings James and the Big Battle to me and asks, "will you read this to me, Mommy?" All of our kids enjoy the creative allergy fighting characters and I hear them discussing the different methods used to fight the various allergens. Just this morning I read it again (by request) to a couple of them in the hearing of the older ones. This then prompted a discussion among the older ones about what an epi-pen is and how anti-histamines work. Ninja Lee is their favorite allergy fighter and they love all the minions and their expressions.

The engaging story-line is a great springboard for discussion as well as a way to foster assurance in kids as they learn to take an active role in their own health-care.
James has allergies ( He's allergic to nuts, soy and dust! BUT James has a mom and dad PLUS Dr. Chen to help him through. Sleepy from the allergy medicine, James has an AMAZING dream! In his dream you and he will meet Ben Buckaroo and Ninja Lee. You will read how they help James reach the Castle of Bliss. What are one of the weapons? Antihistamine arrows!

Inspired by a real 9 year old boy's story, this book is a MUST for all families who have children with allergies. It is fun, modern, extremely well written, clever and very inspiring for both kids and parents alike. GREAT graphics (simple but fun) and varying fonts. Encourage your child today! Let them know that with the right equipment (James knows never to go anywhere without the medications in his backpack), they can live a normal life.
